Description
Yuzu is an ancient hybrid Citrus from Asia between a wild mandarin and another rare wild Citrus called the ichang papeda.
The fruit are sour, as sour as a lemon, but with unusual overtones to the flavour. When the yuzu is very ripe, it takes on grapefruit characteristics. When it is underripe, it has an unusual herbal smell. Usually the zest or juice is used for cooking, or the fruit can be used whole to make marmalde (recipe available upon request).
Yuzu seeds are highly polyembryonic which means that a very large majority of seedlings will be apomictic [=true] clones of the yuzu. Yuzu is very tough on its own roots so is suitable for growing without grafting.
